The group currently has approximately 6 hours of old film material - already digitized
- from which to prepare further movies of local historic interest. This material
includes films of the 1937 Coronation celebrations in Beckenham, the building of
Beckenham hospital, sights around Kent in the 1920s, histories of a local newspaper
chain. - and many more mostly made by local enthusiasts from 50 to 70 years ago.
Ownership of many of these has now been ascertained and approval for continuing
with our venture obtained.
The group is also currently involved in a movie covering ‘The Blytons of Beckenham’
- about Enid Blyton, who was born in the area and lived here for around 30 years,
and her nephew Carey Blyton, a composer and poet who was also born and bred in Beckenham
- and is most noted, perhaps, for the creation of Bananas in Pyjamas.
Research on these two people is currently well in hand: but if anyone has any memorabilia
or stories to tell of their ‘Beckenham’ years, we are of course interested in hearing
about them.
