COMPREHENSIVE TUTORIAL
FOR LIQUID EDITION 6.0!
Paul (Mitton) has done it again - with his latest MIND MELD, Paul has provided yet
another superbly compressive - and comprehendible! - tutorial covering the latest
version of Liquid Edition (6.0). With more than 18 hours of eminently watchable
material, the two DVDs cover all the new features built into Version 6 (for those
who are familiar with earlier Liquid versions and who need to get up to speed with
this latest version), and, for those new to Liquid Edition, provide a complete 'one-to-one'
training session from setting up the PC right through to authoring and creating a
multi-menu DVD.
Paul's easy going approach is indeed akin to having someone sit next to you as you
learn. Very informal, chatty - and gently laced with a sprinkling of humour - I find
this style far better than the somewhat rigid approach that simply provides the information
almost as if reading from a script or text book. Quite the contrary - Paul has this
happy knack of repeating the mistakes that have in the past sent me rushing to the
massive manual for guidance - and he immediately explains why and where things aren't
working as may be expected.

It is, for me, a splendid technique that makes the point far better than (the tutor)
always getting the procedures right at the outset, and helps one (me at least) to
remember what to do next time that procedure doesn't seem to work. The straightforward,
'do it this way' approach, if you get it wrong, can only send you back to the tutorial
or manual to see what part of the procedure has been missed. Paul's approach - which
isn't overdone, I hasten to add - shows in a memorable way where to look when things
don't seem to work, highlights the potential 'pitfalls' , and encourages one to examine
the options available to see why something hasn't worked as expected.
I've spent quite a few hours now going through Paul's tutorial - reviewing areas
that I felt I knew about and understood as well as investigating those areas I have
still to find out about (multi-cam edits, for example - for me an unexplored part
of Liquid Edition but one I need to get into). Needless to say, I picked up valuable
tips, hints and wrinkles, making it worthwhile going through the entire tutorial,
not just those parts that are 'new'. Take resetting an audio level, for example.
I'd always dragged the slider back to the zero position (and wished for the kind
of 'reset' button' provided for the effect and colour properties. An en passant remark
by Paul has provided the solution for me ... I pass it on shamelessly for those who,
like me, drag the audio sliders back to zero. Just double-click on it. Even if you
knew that little wrinkle, I can almost guarantee Paul has many up his sleeve that
you don't know about. And of course, there's a whole bundle of special tips from
Grandma that'll make the editing process even easier and quicker. God bless Granny's
tips!
Paul has made it easy to access the various sections of the tutorial - as you can
see from the menu screens for the two DVDs shown here.
Each of the sections is divided into further sections that can be played and replayed
- indeed, Paul suggests after most sections that you minimise the tutorial and open
up Liquid Edition to try the newly learned material for yourself. And, for good
measure, included on the DVDs you'll find the sample videos used for many of his
tutorials.
I have seen tutorials by others, and they are good, but in my view, Mind Meld tops
them all because of its gentle, easy to watch, easy to listen to, easy going approach.
I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who uses (or is thinking of using
Liquid Edition 6.0), whether newcomers or experienced 'old hands' . Beginner's will
quickly get up to speed with the way that Liquid Edition works, while experienced
users will have the advanced and 'deep-down' features that so enrich Edition explained
in a straightforward and easily understandable way.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some more 'watching' to do ...
You can read more about what's in the tutorials, watch some demo clips, and of course,
order your copy, by visiting Paul's website, here.
