LIQUID TRANSITIONS AND EFFECTS

THESE TABLES ARE NOW AVAILABLE AS AN INTERACTIVE WORD FORMAT

FOR YOU TO DOWNLOAD  IF YOU SO CHOOSE.

My thanks to Stephane Perron (Mister Z on the Pinnacle Web boards)

for pointing out missing tables and bad links.

Edition is the (very) big brother to Studio, offering virtually all the features that people ask for in Studio, and then some.  It has to be said that the learning curve is longer and steeper, but in my view, well worth the effort. As a newcomer to the program, I was overwhelmed with the vast capabilities, not least of which are the 'transitions and effects' editors. There seems to be a plethora of them - around 50 altogether! - for creating, adjusting and controlling just about everything that can be created, adjusted and controlled. There are several basic ranges of general effects and transitions editors - Real Time (CPU and GPU) and Classic, and a variety of specialised editors offering an extremely wide range of effects, plus there is Hollywood FX of course - version 5.  In addition to all of the editors, there are numerous 'preset' effects - and you can add favourite creations to the presets.  The first hurdle, however, it is to understand or appreciate just what all the different transition and effects editors offer. (It may be pretty obvious to state, but the Transitions link two clips, whilst Effects can be used to change the appearance etc of a clip - for example, to have it gradually turn from black & white into colour, or to size it up as an overlay pic-in-pic). All the editors can use key-frames if required, to control the advancement of the effect. Some editors seem to duplicate the facilities offered by others, so to help me understand and appreciate exactly what is available, and to help select the best editor for an effect or transition  from the vast choice available, I created some tables showing the properties and their controls for each of the editors. (HFX is not included in these tables). It may help other users of Edition as well, so, here they are.

Note 1:

most effects and transitions can be reversed using an icon below the editor panel

Note 2:

most (if not all) of the effects can be key framed for a gradual change in properties,

or can have key frames disabled for a constant display of the chosen settings

Note 3:

In the Table for each editor, the FIRST column gives the PROPERTY, and the second column gives the CONTROLS available for that property

Click below on the type of Editor you wish to seek out, then Click on the appropriate Table number for details of the selected Editor(s)

2d Real Time effects

This Table covers six editors: the three types listed each cover a Transition and an Effects editor, since their Properties and Controls are the same.

A transition can be adjusted in length and must be placed between two clips, both of which must have sufficient leeway

An effect is 'loaded' onto a clip to control its appearance.

Transitions and Effects can use key frames if so desired, to control the degree of property change with time.

What it does...

With this filter effect, a clip's colours can be corrected or gradually changed throughout its length, using key frames as required.

See also the RT colour correction editor.

Check also clip property controls which provide a constant colour correction for the highlight, mid-tone and shadow areas - for the whole clip, from beginning to end.
