- Don't go mad with transitions: watch a film and see just how few transitions are
actually used - and how simple they are the majority of the time.
- Use the sound lines to fade the sounds in and out - especially at transitions.
- Save frequently whilst editing ... even the best programs can fail at times. Sod's
Law states it happens when you have most to lose.
- If using Studio 400, remember that some VCRs don't like short recording periods-
ie, short clips. It is (probably) something to do with a clash between the PAUSE
delay time and/or the time taken for the machine to physically start and come to
a halt. If you find shortish clips are not coming out the way you want - try to
determine the minimum length that works every time, then make sure that you never
have clips less than that length. The usual recommendation in such circumstances
is 6 seconds. However, not all VCRs exhibit this behaviour - try yours by seeing
how it responds to short clips: some VCRs can happily record clips as short as 4
frames long - making various trick effects possible.
