About me...

Briefly... I am a writer, having started at a very early age (yep, that's me umpty-two years ago), now retired from the joys of writing advertisements for TV, radio and press. Nevertheless, I still knock out the occasional article and book, and make videos just for the hell of it. Married (second time around) with seven children and eight grandchildren between us, and living on the London / Kent borders (that's in the UK, of course). Like most retired people  - I wonder where you find the time to go to work.

The video editing corner of my den

as it was...

... and the way it looks now. Please don't say it looks a mess ... I tidied it up (?!) especially for this shot.  For the record, it's a two monitor Liquid Edition 6.1 set-up, with a TV for monitoring the timeline output.  You can't see it here, but the right hand monitor has just timelines on it: the left monitor displays  the source and timeline viewers, and the assets for the movie in hand. The PC on the far right is the one that does all the video editing - the one to the left of it is for accessing the net, and everything else one does on a computer - it shares a monitor and keyboard via a switch box. You'll spot  VHS, Hi8 and MiniDV VCRs - no Digital 8.  There's a Contour Jog Shuttle (couldn't manage without it now...), the Liquid Edition Pro box and a Canopus, ADVC box. There are sundry other items, a stack of loose wires, and a pair of kicked off shoes.

And its taken about eight years to put together...

Awards Galore

The I have quite a number Trophies and Certificate under my belt now..  I've lost count of the Awards Flat Out has picked up - it's around a dozen, and apparently it is now included on one of the IAC's show reels. My one minute short 'Remote Control' - has picked also up quite a few awards. You can see it here   .  As a club we won the local area Triangle competition for the best half hour program of movies - and one of our members picked up the other award given at that competition, for the 'Best Film'

One proud Gramps...

We are always proud of our own children, proud of our own grandchildren. They are the funniest, brightest, smartest kids around,  without exception.  They never fail to amaze and amuse, and keep us well stocked with stories of their activities that we can tell and re-tell over and over again at the drop of a hat. They are all the apples of our eyes.  But, I have even extra reason to be proud of one of my Granddaughters - Gigi - now 13 years old* and  living in America (with my son and daughter-in-law, of course!).. What brings on this extra flush of pride?  She recently won the 'Best in Show' award in a state-wide competition, with a 3D 'card'  and accompanying verses on the theme 'Walking hand in hand'.  So, with an extra tug on the braces, I unashamedly reproduce the poem here....

Live and Let Live

Would a rainbow be as beautiful, if it were just a single colour?

Would we love the Autumn just as much, if the leaves stayed green?

If every snowflake were congruent would it provoke the same amount of wonder?

The answer to these questions is forever no,

for what would the world be without variety and spice?

So many different flowers in the garden of life.

We need personalities and discords,

Shapes and harmonies,

To make the radiant and diverse,

Our symphony,

So live and let live.

Would the sounds of dawn be as impressive,

if the same note was sung by every bird?

We wouldn't have as vivid an assortment of tunes,

There wouldn't be as colourful a mixture to be heard?

The answer to these questions is eternally no,

So live and let live.

Would a sunset be as incredible, if it were just the sun?

It's the sky that changes colour,

With the clouds and birds as one.

The answer to these questions is infinitely no,

So live and let live

No matter what their outside colour, everyone bleeds red,

Everyone cries, when they have hurt feelings,

And everyone needs a friend.

So live and let live.

Would the world be more magnificent

if there weren't those flaws that sadden you every day?

If that person bent down to help the child that fell,

Even though her eyes were shaped in a different way?

The answer to this question is yes,

And so to live in happiness,

Live and let live.

I wish we could accept everyone for who and what they are,

And appreciate for their differences,

All those near and far.

If only this would come to pass,

And earth would come together,

Like shards of broken glass.
